The biggest popular party in Barcelona, a perfect chance to come to the city and live its true popular culture!
The stunning festival of La Merce is as always full of fun and activities which as well as being free are great fun for everyone. Les Festes de la Mercè normally has around 500 events all focusing on popular Catalan and Mediterranean culture and traditions.
This is the biggest and most important festival of Barcelona. It's held every year in the month of September and is the final celebration of the summer before autumn sets in.
The day of the actual festival is on the 24 September but the highlight is on the eve of 24 September.
Celebrations include the popular procession of dragons and devils called 'Correfoc' (Fire Run) on 26 September from 20.30 to 22.30 and there's also a spectacular firework display with more events on the weekend of the 27 and 28 September.
Dakar, city guest at La Mercè
Barcelona is an open city, a crucible, a site where many different cultures have come together, peoples with different origins and beliefs, deeply marking the history of our country. An outstanding element at La Mercè, one aimed at encouraging Barcelonans to learn more about the different cultures that live together here, is the Guest City parallel programme, in which a city chosen from anywhere in the world presents its finest artistic manifestations.
Music and BAM
Barcelona has always been home to the broadest and most diverse musical culture and, accordingly, music plays a leading role during the Feast of La Mercè. The programme includes, on the one hand, a series of concerts featuring popular acts, with something for everyone, and, on the other, BAM (Barcelona Acció Musical), a festival of independent music that showcases the finest and best from the Catalan and Spanish music scene, along with international figures of the highest standing.
